“He Would Be Lamenting It”: Harbhajan Singh On Virat Kohli’s ‘Unfinished Business’

Virat Kohli is one of the best batters in the world. Be it in terms of stats or his style of play, the right-handed batter could be seen dominating on all fronts. Despite the player achieving so much in his life through his sensational performances, former India spinner and ex-teammate Harbhajan Singh feels that Kohli still has some ‘unfinished business’. The retired India player said that the drought of the World Cup trophy since 2011 is something that Kohli would be lamenting.

“IPL is coming and then there is the World Cup. Virat Kohli’s bat will make the same noise as before, probably louder. Of course, Virat has (unfinished business). That World Cup trophy. He last won it when he was not ‘Virat’ (great). Won the World Cup in his first attempt but that’s the funny part about fortune. But from there, Kohli went on to become such a big player but without a World Cup – he played 2015, 2019, and now 2023 too. But still, the trophy hasn’t come home, so he would be lamenting it,” Harbhajan said on his YouTube channel.

Kohli was part of the Indian team that defeated Sri Lanka in the final of the Cricket World Cup in 2011 to lift the title. After that, India, not only failed to win a World Cup but also any ICC trophy. Harbhajan said that Kohli could only be satisfied if he won another World Cup for India again.

“No matter how many records he scripts, how many runs he scores, as far as I know, his hunger will never diminish. And a major part of it is to lift that shiny trophy. Every player’s ultimate dream is to win a World Cup trophy. Your records remain for you until the end. But people don’t remember records; they remember trophies,” said Harbhajan.
