Sarkar – For the third time, Vijay rejoined with film producer AR Murugadoss for Sarkar. A political action-drama, Vijay casted the role of an NRI-returned who fights for his right to vote after he envisages it has been cast illegally. Though the film managed to enter the Rs.250 crore club nationwide, it received mixed appraisals. Sarkar became the highest-grossing south Indian movie of 2018. It crossed the lifetime gross of Rs. 218 crore of Ram Charan’s Rangasthalam.
Master – It was the prime mainstream Tamil film to be imaged on the big screen after the nationwide lockdown was elevated. The film casted Vijay in the role of a college professor with a drinking issue. In spite of being released in the middle of the pandemic, Master grossed over Rs. 150 crore at the box office.
Mersal – For the initial time in his career, Vijay featured a triple role in this cinema. The plot of the film was about twin brothers vindicating their father’s demise. The film was a commercial success and surpassed over Rs 260 crore in its melodramatic run.
