Heavy rain in Dharamsala caused flash flooding, destroyed vehicles and caused property damage in the Bagsunag area. Locals and authorities shared some videos on Twitter, including SHO Mcleodganj Vipin Chaudhary. A 37-second clip shared by the ANI news agency was taken from the balcony of a building, showing the terrifying visual effect of a large amount of water rushing out of parked vehicles. A few seconds later, an SUV can be seen torn away by the water, but blocked by other vehicles and tied up by mountain torrents.
Those who took these images can hear screams as they witness a huge SUV blown away. After the car was blocked by other vehicles, one of them said, “Now no car can pass. Others expressed their shock at the large amount of water coming from the other side.
Heavy rains fell in Kangra district, 58 km from Dharamshala, making life chaotic. The rapid pace with which the flow of water transformed – instantly – a spring at Bhagsu Nag, a tourist attraction, into a river that lacks nothing. Several hotels in the area have reported heavy damage. The torrential downpours and flash floods instilled fear in the people and also caused chaos and confusion.
Minister Jairam Thakur requested a report on the damage suffered and called on the authorities to provide all assistance to the affected areas.
Besides Kangra, several other districts in Himachal Pradesh also experienced heavy rains after days of hot weather. Monday’s downpour brought respite but also caused plenty of damage.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Mr Thakur and provided updates on the situation due to flooding in several districts of the state and assured him of any possible support from the Center. He also informed him that National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams were approaching the affected areas for rescue and relief operations.
