New Delhi: On Wednesday (July 14, 2021), the North Central Railway service was interrupted on the Delhi-Howrah route for about an hour and a half because the Assistant Station Master (ASM) fell asleep due to alcohol while on duty.
According to a major newspaper, major trains such as Farakka and Magadh Express, as well as several other freight trains, were stranded at various stations. The report showed that Aniruddh Kumar, the assistant station master, did not respond to any phone calls from the seniors, then rushed to the train station and found him asleep.
The report also quoted stationmaster Vishambhar Dayal as saying that ASM was supposedly found sleeping in his office after drinking alcohol. After the incident, a complaint form was sent to the case and the ASM was suspended. An investigation was ordered into the incident.
In addition, ASM was taken to a railway hospital in Tundla for a medical analysis. “The station master’s assistant has been sent to Tundla for a medical checkup to determine if he is drunk. However, it was mainly found that he was sleeping,” a senior railway official said.
