The number of deaths from landslides in Arunachal Pradesh has risen to eight, authorities said, after the body of a lady who had gone missing discovered here on Friday. Kusum Rai’s body recovered from the rubble in the rear of a Punjabi Dhaba in the city following a six-day search, according to Capital Superintendent of Police (SP) Jimmy Chiram. On Sunday night, following their destroyed house by a landslid ,Nagen Barman (50) and Tapas Rai (15), their remains retrieved from the scene. And the lady believed to have died.
“The search operation conducted by the National Disaster Response Force, state officials and the police was hampered due to incessant rainfall,” Chiram said.
On Monday, two Public Works Department workers ,while attempting to free a motorbike stuck in the muck on Ganga-Jully Basti Road smothered in a landslide.
Three persons died in landslides in the Kurung Kumey district, whilst the other is still missing, according to State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) sources. They claimed that torrential downpour have been falling in most regions of the state over the last two days, with landslides recorded in numerous districts.
Heavy rain created landslides and flood-like scenarios, affecting almost 3,000 people in 33 villages across 14 districts until Wednesday.
