The extension work at the Perambalur new bus stand is nearing completion while the improvements taken up separately is expected to get over in a couple of months. The Perambalur Municipality is executing the extension and improvement work at the new bus stand for which funds have been allocated separately under the ‘Kalaignar Nagarpura Mempattu Thittam’.
The extension work is being carried out at a cost of ₹3.72 crore while the improvement work is under way at a cost of ₹4.73 crore. Under the extension work, construction of 14 shops, a restaurant, creation of 12 additional bus bays, separate restrooms for men and women and bus runways were taken up. The extension work is nearing completion. Finishing work and installation of furniture are under way and they were expected to be completed in 15 days, said a municipal official.
The official said creation of a two-wheeler parking lot, installation of canopy above the bus bays, improvements to the existing 22 bus bays, construction of drain, installation of three high mast lamps and laying of bitumen road and paver block footpath were the improvements work taken up separately at the bus stand.
The parking lot and provision of shadow canopy have been completed. Installation of high mast lamps, construction of drain and laying of bitumen road were under progress at present. These were likely to get over in a couple of months, the official said. Perambalur Collector Sharanya Ari on Tuesday inspected the pace of the ongoing work at the new bus stand and advised the municipal officials to expedite them and bring it to public use at the earliest.
