Projected thermal power requirement is expected to grow to 307 gigawatts (GW) by 2035, Union Minister for Commerce Piyush Goyal stated in response to a question from The Hindu.

Speaking to reporters on Monday (December 15, 2025), he emphasised that progress was being constantly made to meet the energy requirement of the country.

Mr. Goyal informed in the previous fiscal (FY2025), 7.2 GW-worth capacity was commissioned and contracts worth 26.3 GW had been awarded. Further, so far in the ongoing fiscal, 13.3 GW worth contracts have been awarded.

“You can see the speed with which we are growing our capacity to meet the needs of India and all Indians,” he said.
