A day of milestones for ton-up Dogra

A day of milestones for ton-up Dogra

Posted on October 16, 2025 By admin

For more than two decades, Paras Dogra has been churning out runs tirelessly for the teams he has represented in the Ranji Trophy. Having moved to Jammu & Kashmir at the start of the 2024/25 season after long stints with first Himachal Pradesh and then Puducherry, the middle-order batter – he will turn 41 in November – seems to have lost none of his run-scoring appetite.

On Thursday, the second day of an Elite Group-D Ranji fixture between J&K and Mumbai, Dogra compiled an unbeaten 112 off 169 balls to help his side get to 273 for seven at stumps. In response to Mumbai’s first-innings total of 386, J&K was tottering at 32 for three in 9.2 overs, but Dogra, who belongs to Himachal Pradesh, brought all his experience into play to lead a fightback. It turned into a day of milestones for the J&K skipper – he brought up 10,000 First-Class runs and also surpassed J&K coach Ajay Sharma by notching up his 32nd Ranji ton. Only former India opener Wasim Jaffer, with 40 centuries, has accrued more three-figure scores in India’s premier First-Class competition.

Abdul Samad was an able partner in a stand of 94 runs with Dogra for the fourth wicket. But after having done the hard yards to get to 44, the 23-year-old squandered it all away by holing out to deep-midwicket against off-spinner Tanush Kotian.

When J&K slid to further trouble at 166 for six, Dogra and Abid Mushtaq came together for a brisk partnership of 68. While Dogra’s cover drives were a highlight, Mushtaq’s intent to impose himself resulted in two sixes in a contribution of 40.

In the first session, Mumbai could only add 50 more runs to its overnight score of 336 for five. Seamer Yudhvir Singh, who had taken two scalps on Wednesday, ended with a five-for. He dismissed Shams Mulani leg-before on 91.
