The Angamaly police on Monday (January 20) reportedly detained a suspected Bangladeshi native on charges of unauthorised stay.
The detainee was identified as Hossain Belor, 29, from Jessore, Bangladesh. He was reportedly picked up from his lodging in Angamaly by a team led by District Police Chief (Ernakulam Rural) Vaibhav Saxena. An expired passport was seized from him.
The police said that the man had reached Angamaly three months ago. He had entered Shalimar through the Bangladesh-India border and reportedly stayed there for a while before taking a train to Aluva.
He had been working as a casual labourer in the construction sector. The police said he had visited India twice before, during which he obtained two Aadhaar cards by paying an agent ₹5,000. He had reportedly been staying in the country using these cards. Mr. Saxena interrogated him.
Last week, a Bangladeshi woman and a man were arrested from a colony in Perumbavur. They had reportedly crossed the border and moved through various locations before reaching Bengaluru, from where they allegedly travelled to Kerala, according to the police. Fake Aadhaar and PAN cards were reportedly seized from the woman. The investigation into that case led to the man’s detention on Monday.
