A conman’s scheme to sell fake gold backfired when his intended victim outsmarted him and led him straight to the Film Nagar police station, where he was handed over to the authorities.

Abdallah Ibrahim, a 52-year-old businessman residing in Tolichowki, was persistently contacted by Inamul Hasan since January 6. His con involved an offer to sell 8 kilograms of gold for ₹2 crore, said the Investigating Officer M. Satish Kumar.

“Despite Ibrahim’s repeated refusals, Hasan claimed to have travelled from Rajasthan to Hyderabad with the gold. On January 16, Hasan presented two gold biscuits to Ibrahim as samples, urging him to verify their authenticity,” said the officer.

Suspecting foul play, Ibrahim tested the gold and found it to be counterfeit. “However, upon confirming the deception, he cleverly convinced Hasan to accompany him in his car, ostensibly to finalise the transaction,” added the police.

Instead, Ibrahim drove straight to the Film Nagar Police Station and turned the conman over to the authorities.

“Hasan had travelled to Hyderabad with the intention of duping the complainant using fake gold biscuits, commonly referred to as ‘Innupa Kaddi gold’. We the public remain cautious when dealing with unsolicited offers involving valuable commodities,” explained Kumar.
