Former AIADMK MP and legislator P.R. Sundaram (73) died in Namakkal on Thursday (January 16, 2025). He was among the four AIADMK candidates to be elected to the Legislative Assembly in 1996 when the party faced a rout with its leader Jayalalithaa herself facing defeat.

A native of Rasipuram, Sundaram started his political life in AIADMK and served as Rasipuram MLA twice, from 1996-2001 and 2001-2006.

He was elected as MP from Namakkal in 2014 and completed a five-year term. In 2021, he quit AIADMK and joined the DMK.

Sources said he suffered from age-related ailments and was confined to his house for the past few months. He passed on Thursday morning. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK president M.K. Stalin, expressed his condolences in a statement.

Sundaram is survived by wife Sundari and son Dinesh.
