Members of Parliamentary Standing Committee visit Polavaram project in Andhra Pradesh

The Union Jal Sakthi Parliamentary Standing Committee (2024-25), led by its Chairperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy, arrived at the Polavaram project site on Saturday to review the progress of the irrigation project.

Andhra Pradesh’s Water Resources Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu explained to the committee the status of the works.

Stating that the project was the lifeline for the State, Mr. Ramanaidu said 72% of the work had been completed during the previous tenure of the TDP government (2014-19). The Minister further said the goal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu was interlinking of rivers.

The committee would study the cofferdam, diaphragm wall, and spillway channel, and submit its findings to the Parliament.

The members of the committee included Khiru Mahto and Dharmasheela Gupta from Rajya Sabha, and R. Sher Singh Ghubaya, Rodmal Nagar, Jayanta Basumatary, Narayan Das Ahirwar, Sanjna Jatav, Sagar Eshwar Khandre, Vishal (Dada) Prakashbapu Patil, and Mohite-Patil Dhairyashil Rajsingh from Lok Sabha.

Polavaram MLA Ch. Balaraju; Eluru District Collector K. Vetriselvi; Superintendent of Police Venkata Pratap Shivakishore; R&R Commissioner S. Ram Sundar Reddy; Chief Engineers Narasimha Murthy and B. Rambabu; Polavaram Project Authority Member-Secretary M. Raghuram; AP-GENCO MD K.V.N. Chandrasekhar; Central Water Commission Member Gopal Singh; Megha Engineering Company MD Ch. V. Subbaiah; Joint Collector P. Dhatri Reddy; Irrigation Advisor M. Venkateswara Rao; and RDO M.V. Ramana were present.
