Imran Khan’s party, Pak. govt. to hold discussions next week

Posted on January 3, 2025 By admin

The second round of talks between the Pakistani government and representatives from Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) party concluded on Thursday (January 2, 2025), with plans to reconvene next week to address ongoing political tensions. National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq facilitated the discussions in the parliament house, which took place in a cordial atmosphere.

During the talks, PTI’s Omer Ayub Khan emphasised the need for the release of political prisoners and the establishment of a commission to investigate events from May 9, 2023, and November 26, 2024. The government, joint communique issued after the talk, agreed to facilitate meetings with Imran Khan, who is currently imprisoned in Adiala Jail Rawalpindi, to get his direction for talks.

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar indicated that the PTI was expected to present its charter of demands but requested more time. The first meeting occurred on December 23, marking the beginning of negotiations aimed at reducing political strife following allegations from PTI regarding fake cases against its leaders. The political landscape remains fraught as both sides work toward potential resolutions.
