CPI(M) Andhra Pradesh unit secretary V. Srinivasa Rao, along with the party leaders, on December 31, Tuesday, released a logo for the party’s state congress meeting scheduled to be held in Nellore on February 1, 2 and 3.

Mr. Srinivasa Rao said that the people were unhappy as their incomes were decreasing and expenses were increasing.

“The government is planning to enforce new taxes to increase its revenue. Toll taxes, road taxes, and other levies are expected to rise, hitting the common man hard. Even basic items like puffed rice and popcorn are being taxed,” he said.

He accused the Andhra Pradesh government of misleading the people with false claims. “The government pooled around 5,000 acres in Nakkapalli for pharmaceutical companies, but no industry evinced interest. It was planning to set up a steel plant in Nakkapalli, but it hasn’t materialised.  The Polavaram project is still incomplete, but contractors are reaping the harvest. The project displaced people of Polavaram are living in uncertainty,” he said.

The CPI(M) leader further said that Amaravati farmers were feeling insecure though the State’s capital Amaravati was projected as a huge project. “The State government announced that the garbage tax would be withdrawn. But, no G.O. has been issued in this regard yet. The unemployed youth are still waiting for the mega DSC,” he pointed out.

Dig at Pawan Kalyan

Referring to Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan’s statements, Mr. Srinivasa Rao said it  was not correct on the part of Mr. Pawan Kalyan to question whether secularism applied only to Hindus.

“He (Mr. Pawan Kalyan) should remember that he took an oath in the name of the Indian Constitution. It is incorrect to say that Communists have not spoken a word about the attacks by Muslims in Hyderabad. The CPI(M) was the only party that fought against the MIM in Hyderabad. It is the only party that opposes religious extremism in all forms,” he said, adding, “Why has Mr. Pawan Kalyan not spoken about the attacks happening in Manipur?”

CPI(M) leaders Ch. Babu Rao, Mantena Seetharam, D. Ramadevi, K. Subbaravamma, V. Venkateswarlu, and K. Lokanadham were also present.
