Filmmaker Balachandrakumar, key witness in Kerala actor assault case, dies

Posted on December 13, 2024 By admin

Filmmaker P. Balachandrakumar

Filmmaker P. Balachandrakumar who had raised serious allegations against Malayalam actor Dileep in the sensational woman actor rape case, died on Friday (December 13, 2024) morning. He was 62.

He had been undergoing treatment at a private hospital at Chengannur for kidney and heart ailments.

A close friend of Mr. Dileep before he came out with allegations against the actor in December 2021, Mr. Balachandrakumar had accused the actor of having possession of the visuals of the alleged serial assault of the actor in a moving car in Kochi on February 17, 2017.

The filmmaker, who later became a crucial witness, had alleged that Mr. Dileep had plotted the attack with the help of the key accused after he was upset over her alleged role in creating marital discord.

He had supported his allegations by submitting a series of audio clips, resulting in a further investigation and additional charges, including conspiracy to murder, destruction of evidence, and planning attacks on investigators, against the actor.

Mr. Balachandrakumar had directed the movie Cowboy in 2013, with actor Asif Ali in the lead role. He claimed in a statement given before the investigation team that he had come to know about Mr. Dileep’s alleged involvement in the case while discussing a movie at the actor’s (Dileep’s) residence in Aluva.
