The Karnataka State Government NPS Employees Association has announced a dharna on February 7 if the State Government does not announce scrapping of New Pension Scheme and decision to revert to old pension scheme in the 2025-2026 budget.

After the state executive meeting here on Sunday, the Association said that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on January 1, 2023 had promised to bring the issue of scrapping the NPS before the cabinet and decide on the issue. “Meanwhile, the Centre announced the unified pension scheme (UPS) to replace NPS. However, we have completely rejected the UPS. Our only demand is to implement the OPS.”

The statement said: “If the employees do not get any assurance in the 2025-2026 budget as promised in the Congress manifesto, we will stage dharna to seek our rights. The association also opposes the committee that has been set up to examine developments in states that have scrapped NPS and reverted to OPS.
