Kozhikode Corporation’s Samanvaya project to be launched on January 15

Posted on January 4, 2025 By admin

Samanvaya, a pilot project of the Kozhikode Corporation aimed at eradicating extreme poverty and to make the city elderly- and differently-abled friendly while ensuring total cleanliness, will be launched on Kerala Palliative Care Day on January 15.

The project involves amalgamating the services of various government departments and institutions, people’s representatives, and the public to achieve the best results. The departments of Health, Social Justice, Local Self-Governance, Women and Child Development, Education, Sports, and Culture will work hand in hand to ensure the smooth functioning of projects under Samanvaya.

An online digital grid named ‘Kerala Care’ is being formed solely for the project. Everyone above the age of 60, bedridden patients irrespective of age, extremely poor people, and differently abled persons will be the beneficiaries of the project by default.

Free medicines, food, friendly visits, health check-ups and palliative care at home, telemedicine, services of doctors, psychologists and other health workers, and transportation and ambulance services are some of the benefits offered to those who register under the grid. A health team comprising ASHA workers, anganwadi workers, and other volunteers headed by ward councillors will monitor the activities in each ward.

Palliative care activities undertaken by various agencies will be brought under a single umbrella as part of the project. The services of professionals and student police cadets will also be utilised.

Corporation welfare standing committee chairman P. Divakaran said the activities under Samanvaya would be monitored by a committee headed by the Mayor, while those headed by the respective ward councillors would monitor them at the ward level. The ward level committees will be in place by January 10.
