Suresh Raina Picks ‘Next India Captain’. It’s Not Hardik, Pant Or Bumrah

Posted on April 21, 2024 By admin

Former India all-rounder Suresh Raina has backed Shubman Gill to become the men’s national cricket team’s captain in the near future. While there has been doubts regarding current captain Rohit Sharma‘s future, the veteran opening batter recently revealed he would love to help the team win the T20 World Cup this year, as well as the World Test Championship (WTC) next year. Rohit lost his Mumbai Indians (MI) captaincy to Hardik Pandya, who left the same role at Gujarat Titans (GT) to rejoing his former franchise.

With Hardik now at MI, Gill was appointed captain of GT for IPL 2024. However, the franchise has lost four of their first seven games in the tournament.

Raina threw his weight behind Gill to become India’s next captain after Rohit.

“I would say he will be the next Indian captain (after Rohit Sharma). Ban sakta hai vo,” Raina said during a discussion on Lallantop.

Gill will be in action later on Sunday as GT take on Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the second game of Sunday’s double-header in IPL 2024.

The 23-year-old, who is the youngest captain in IPL 2024, is the leading run-scorer for GT this season. He has scored 263 runs in seven matches at an average of 43.83.

PBKS are in ninth position in the points table after two wins in seven games while GT are eighth with three wins. In their previous meeting earlier in the season, Punjab secured a thrilling victory over the Titans in Ahmedabad.

Gujarat Titans: Wriddhiman Saha(w), Shubman Gill(c), Sai Sudharsan, David Miller, Abhinav Manohar, Rahul Tewatia, Shahrukh Khan, Rashid Khan, Mohit Sharma, Noor Ahmad, Spencer Johnson, Sandeep Warrier, Sharath BR, Darshan Nalkande, Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore, Manav Suthar, Matthew Wade, Vijay Shankar, Umesh Yadav, Kane Williamson, Jayant Yadav, Joshua Little, Kartik Tyagi, Azmatullah Omarzai, Sushant Mishra
