Based on his complaint, the CCB had registered a case against Mr. Mannan under the provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (Amendment of 2018) and for criminal conspiracy under Section 61 (2) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Mr. Mannan was picked up by the police from his residence at Arappalayam in the early hours of Friday and was whisked away to CCB office where he was being enquired.
“As of now, he is only being interrogated in the case,” a top police officer said.
Mr. Mannan was the Deputy Mayor of Madurai between 2006 and 2011 as a DMK candidate and was a staunch loyalist of former Union Minister, M.K. Alagiri, till the 2026 Assembly election, when he switched to the AIADMK.
Mr. Mustafa had recently claimed he was offered ₹30 crore to vote against the TVK Government.
After a day-long interrogation, the CCB formally arrested Mr. Mannan and produced him before the Special Court for trial of cases under Prevention of Corruption Act in the evening. The Judge refused to award judicial remand for him and let him off on personal bail. However, the court directed him to appear before the Investigating Officer, CCB, at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
