The Delhi Police arrested a 26-year-old man for storing and selling illegal firecrackers from his residence in Shahdara and seized 311.97 kg of firecrackers, the police said on Wednesday (November 4, 2026).
The accused, Harshit Mittal, a resident of Balbir Nagar, was arrested on November 3 following a raid by the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of Shahdara district, following a tip-off that he was selling illegal firecrackers from his house.
The seized material was taken into police possession.
A case was registered at Shahdara police station under Sections 288 and 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 9(b) of the Explosives Act. The accused was subsequently arrested and questioned, the police said.
According to the police, Mr. Mittal had been working at a restaurant and earning a daily wage. He turned to the illegal sale of firecrackers to make quick money because of financial difficulties. The police are verifying his previous criminal antecedents.
The Shahdara district police have appealed to residents to inform them about the illegal storage or sale of firecrackers, citing the potential threat such activities pose to public safety.
