Two men were arrested by Meerpet police, Hyderabad, on Tuesday (November 3, 2026) night in connection with the assault of two young Christian women in Almasguda, after a video of the incident, which reportedly took place last month, circulated widely on social media.
The accused were identified as Lakshmi Narayana and Sashivardhan. The Meerpet police booked a case against the two men. Inspector B. Shobhan said the women had visited a woman identified as Mary and were returning when they were confronted and attacked. The police are verifying further details of the incident.
The video shows a group of men questioning the two women over allegations that they were attempting to convert people to Christianity by luring schoolchildren with chocolates. The women denied the allegations, saying they had gone to visit their aunt. One of them was heard pleading with the men to let them go.
A man in the video is heard accusing them of attempting religious conversions and demanding that their bags be checked for books. The women were seen being slapped repeatedly, while the men used abusive language against them.
The incident reportedly occurred near the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar statue in Almasguda, within the limits of Meerpet police station. The video was widely circulated on social media on Tuesday.
Former Telangana Minister and Bharat Rashtra Samihti (BRS) MLA Sabitha Indra Reddy on Wednesday (November 4, 2026) condemned the assault and urged the police to identify those responsible and take legal action. She said that any objections over religious activities should be addressed through legal means and not physical violence.
The incident has drawn attention to the need for complaints over alleged religious conversion activities to be handled through lawful channels rather than intimidation or assault.
