NMDC’s iron ore output rose 18% in Oct, sales dip amid rain impact

Posted on November 3, 2026 By admin

State-owned NMDC reported October iron ore production rose 18% year-on-year (YoY) to 5.04 million tonnes, while sales declined more than 11% to 3.44 MT.

For the seven months ended October, production stood at 32.32 MT (26.47 MT) and sales 25.67 MT (26.12 MT).

The company said dispatches were temporarily impacted by disruptions to the Kottavalasa–Kirandul (KK) railway line after sections of the route were washed away due to heavy monsoon rains in September and October. The disruption affected evacuation from NMDC’s Bailadila mines in Chhattisgarh for nearly a month.

With rail connectivity restored and supplies resumed, it expects the dispatches and sales to improve in the coming months, NMDC said.

“The 18% growth in iron ore production in October reflects the sustained efforts of the teams. With the rail connectivity restored and supplies resumed, we expect dispatches and sales to improve in the coming months,” CMD Amitava Mukherjee said. NMDC is eyeing 60 MT production this fiscal and becoming a 100 MT mining company by 2030.
