The Kozhikode Corporation has launched a cleaning drive as part of the State government’s 100-day action programme, ‘Nirmalam – Puthuyuga Suchitwa Keralam’ campaign, aimed at bringing about a comprehensive transformation in waste management through public participation.
Mayor O. Sadasivan inaugurated the Corporation-level campaign on the district court premises by participating in a cleaning drive on Tuesday.
The campaign, which seeks to transform the sanitation and waste management sectors between October 2026 and March 30, 2031, will be implemented in three phases — short-term, medium-term, and long-term — with the aim of achieving its targets by March 30, observed as the International Day of Zero Waste.
The short-term activities will be carried out from October 2026 to October 2, 2027, while the medium-term phase will run from October 2, 2027 to June 5, 2030. The long-term interventions will focus on ensuring sustainable improvements in sanitation and waste management.
Officials said the Corporation had convened a special council meeting as part of the campaign and would constitute Nirmalam Shuchitwa Keralam committees in all its wards.
Scientific waste management and sanitation practices will be ensured in households, commercial establishments, schools, government offices, roadsides, markets, bus stations, bulk waste-generating establishments, public spaces, and tourist destinations.
Cleaning and conservation of waterbodies will also be a key component of the campaign. The Corporation will intensify enforcement against violations, including illegal dumping of waste, while seeking to promote awareness and responsible waste management through public participation.
Deputy Mayor S. Jayasree presided.
