The Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has urged employers to complete Aadhaar-seeding of their employees and authentication of ESI-insured persons and their family members.
The Code on Social Security, 2020, which came into force on November 21, 2025, mandates Aadhaar-based identification of insured persons and their dependent family members for registration, availing benefits and medical services under Section 142. Further, Rule 18 of the Social Security (Central) Rules, 2026, requires employers to register employees with their Aadhaar particulars and maintain updated employee and family details in the prescribed portal, an official statement said.
Accordingly, all employers should take the following immediate steps: They should identify employees working in their establishments whose Aadhaar seeding / authentication is pending along with that of their eligible dependent family members. They should inform the employees concerned and facilitate completion of Aadhaar seeding / authentication immediately. The employers should forward Aadhaar-seeding requests pending in the Employer Portal to the ESIC Branch Office on priority for further necessary action. They should ensure that all particulars furnished on the portal are accurate and updated.
All employers are requested to complete the above exercise within seven days from the date of publication of the announcement.
The ESI insured persons should also furnish their Aadhaar details and correct particulars of their eligible dependent family members to their employers and extend necessary cooperation. Non-compliance with the applicable statutory requirements may attract penal consequences under Section 133(m) of the Code on Social Security, 2020, the statement said.
