The Tourism department and the Kozhikode district administration are considering a proposal to develop a river tourism circuit connecting local bodies through which the Kuttiadi river flows, with a view to promoting river and hill tourism in the Kuttiadi Assembly constituency.

A meeting chaired by Kuttiadi MLA Parakkal Abdulla was recently held to discuss the proposal. The MLA submitted a comprehensive report on the tourism potential of rivers, ponds, paddy fields and hills in the constituency to District Collector M.S. Madhavikutty, with the aim of promoting the region’s overall development.

The meeting decided to organise a joint river expedition involving the District Collector, the MLA, grama panchayat presidents and tourism officials to explore the region’s tourism potential.

The proposed projects include a heritage walking trail and a happiness park in Kuttiadi; birdwatching, farm tourism and a walkway at Cherandathur Chira; kayaking and ecotourism on the Chovva river; and a tourism project at Thuruthi–Perinchery Kadavu along with a bamboo park in Thiruvallur.

A team of experts from the Tourism department is expected to visit the proposed locations soon to assess their feasibility. A team led by the District Collector will subsequently visit the shortlisted sites.

The meeting also decided to take urgent steps to improve facilities at Payamkuttimala and widen the road leading to the hill.
