Farmers staged a road blockade on Wednesday in Reddiyarpatti on the Dindigul-Natham road demanding waiver of crop loans and drought relief.

The demands of the farmers, included waiver of crop loans, to declare Dindigul district as drought-affected district, to provide adequate compensation and relief assistance to the agricultural workers who had lost their livelihood.

They also urged the authorities to take steps to fill the irrigation tanks in Dindigul district with surplus water from Vaigai river and also disburse adequate compensation to the farmers who had surrendered their lands for road projects. Farmers held similar such protests across the district.
