Cylinder blast causes panic among residents in Chennai’s Mogappair West

Posted on October 11, 2026 By admin

A cylinder blast caused a fire accident in a house in Mogappair West, prompting the neighbours to run out of their house in fear on Sunday (October 11, 2026).

According to City police, Geetha, a 40-year-old flower vendor, lives in a hut in Mogappair West, near Ambattur, with her son and daughter. On Sunday (October 11, 2026), Ms. Geetha’s daughter — who was sleeping alone inside the home at the time — woke up to thick smoke inside the house. She managed to escape safely by running outside to alert neighbours for help

Within a few minutes, the fire spread rapidly, engulfing the house in flames and causing the two gas cylinders kept inside the house to explode one after another with a deafening sound.

Neighbours, shocked by the explosions, ran out of their homes in panic. The fire and rescue services personnel from the Ambattur Industrial Estate and J.J. Nagar stations were alerted, rushed to the scene, and successfully doused the fire.

The resident complained that five sovereigns of gold jewelry and ₹1.60 lakh in cash kept in a cupboard were destroyed in the fire.

The Ambattur Industrial Estate police have registered a case and are investigating the cause of the fire.
