Pranavi Urs made history by becoming the first Indian woman golfer to win the individual gold at the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya on Saturday.
Pranavai, who hails from Mysore, returned with a par 70 score in the fourth round and clinched the gold with a four-day aggregate score of 15-under 265.
Pranavi, Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar also secured the silver medal in the team event with a combined score of 14-under 546. China bagged the gold while Taiwan the bronze.
Speaking to The Hindu from Nagoya, Pranavi said: “ It’s amazing to win the gold medal and I am happy to be the first one to do it. I didn’t get the start I wanted, but I focused on what to do and took it shot by shot and it worked out according to my game plan.”
The 23-year-old has been competing on the Ladies European Tour for the last three years. She has logged eight top-10 finishes on the Tour.
Pranavi had the distinction of being the first Indian woman to win a professional mixed-gender tournament at the IGPL in Mumbai last November.
