Vaccination plays an important role in preventing infectious diseases and reducing the risk of serious illness and complications. While childhood immunisation is a key part of disease prevention, vaccination needs can continue into adulthood depending on age, health conditions, occupation, travel and other factors.
The Hindu is hosting a free webinar, “Vaccines: Armour Against Infectious Diseases,” on Sunday from 11.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.
The discussion will look at the importance of timely childhood vaccination, completing the recommended schedule and what parents should do when doses are missed. It will also address vaccination when a child is unwell, vaccines recommended in specific situations, and common concerns about vaccine safety and side-effects.
The session will also examine adult vaccination and how immunisation needs may change with age and health conditions. It will cover vaccination for older adults and people living with chronic illnesses, catch-up vaccination for those who are unsure of or do not have records of previous doses, vaccines recommended for international travel, and vaccination during pregnancy.
The discussion will also address how people can review their vaccination requirements and stay up to date with recommended vaccines.
Speakers at the webinar include Janani Sankar, Medical Director, Kanchi Kamakoti CHILDS Trust Hospital, Chennai, who will discuss childhood vaccination and the practical concerns parents face around immunisation, and Dilip Mathai, senior consultant in Infectious Diseases, Naruvi Hospitals, and Professor of Medicine and Adult Infectious Diseases, who will focus on adult vaccination and immunisation across the life course.
The session will be moderated by Athira Elssa Johnson, Senior Reporter, The Hindu.
