Newly elected Delhi University Students’ Union office-bearers visiting Satya Niketan to pay homage to those who lost their lives in the September 6 building collapse, in New Delhi on Monday.

The three newly elected Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) office-bearers from the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) visited Satya Niketan on Monday to pay tribute to the students who lost their lives in the September 6 building collapse and promised to address students’ accommodation issues.
In a statement, the ABVP said, “Upon arriving there, the office-bearers pledged that the new students’ union would continuously struggle to resolve the issues faced by students living in Satya Niketan and surrounding areas and protect their rights. They also vowed to make every positive effort to ensure such incidents do not recur in the future.”
New DUSU president Yash Dabas said the practice of charging arbitrary rents and depriving students of basic amenities in Satya Niketan was a serious issue.
ABVP Delhi State secretary Sarthak Sharma said the election victory marked the beginning of the union’s accountability to students.
“Satya Niketan is the heartbeat of South Campus students, yet they constantly grapple with issues related to accommodation and basic amenities,” Mr. Sharma said in the statement.
Meanwhile, DUSU vice-president Deepanshu Shokeen visited the Vice-Chancellor’s office and said he would continue to raise issues concerning regular students and fight for justice.
In a post on X, Mr. Shokeen said, “Taking Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh as our ideal, our ‘Satyagraha’ has begun today outside the Vice-Chancellor’s office.”
Referring to the demand for more hostel seats, he said, “Until the students’ legitimate demands are met, this Satyagraha will continue. It’s a fight for rights, comrades — we will claim our rights.”
