The two-day annual seminar titled ‘Brhattattva: The grand canvas of Indian wisdom on reality’, organised by the Adyar Library and Research Centre (ALRC) at the library premises in Chennai was inaugurated by Tim Boyd, International president of the Theosophical Society on Friday (September 11, 2026). The seminar was held to encourage the comparative study of religion, philosophy, and science.
Speaking at the inaugural, Mr. Boyd said during the period of British rule in India, there were those among the English rulers who did not value the country’s religious and philosophical traditions and, in some cases, sought to suppress them. However, theosophy recognises the value and importance of all religions and traditions, with a particular appreciation for the profound spiritual and philosophical heritage of the country, he said.
The seminar saw scholars and indological experts including Shrihariprasad, founder and managing trustee of Sri Vishnu Mohan Foundation and retired professor and head of Department of Philosophy of Madras University S. Panneerselvam, speaking about the Hindu philosophy.
Radha Raghunathan, Director of ALRC, spoke on the lesser known Vedanta treatises including the Appaya Deekshithar.
On the concluding day on Saturday (September 12), scholars and experts presented their research papers on the subject.
