A 40-year-old employee of The American College in Madurai was arrested by the Madurai City Police in connection with a job scam concerning the college on Thursday (September 10, 2026).
The employee has been identified as V. Kalaiselvi. Based on a complaint lodged by a person named M. Soman of Karaikudi, the Central Crime Branch police also booked Kalaiselvi’s husband Vijayakumar, a temporary employee of the college; Daniel, a guest lecturer; and M. Dhavanmani Christober, a retired principal, on charges of cheating.
The police said that the four accused had cheated Soman of ₹15.75 lakh on the promise of getting his daughter a lecturer’s job in the English Department in 2024.
According to Soman, he had approached Daniel upon seeing an advertisement about the recruitment of an Assistant Professor in the college. Daniel had introduced Soman and his family to Kalaiselvi and Vijayakumar, claiming that they were close relatives of the former principal.
The accused had sought ₹45 lakh for the post. Soman had given them ₹15.75 lakh in multiple instalments.
However, the accused neither got his daughter the promised job nor returned the money.
This is the second case registered by the Madurai City Police with regard to a job scam concerning the college. Previously, the Anna Nagar police had registered a similar case against a few persons, including the former principal.
