Rights panel orders Corporation to fix potholes on SA Road urgently

Rights panel orders Corporation to fix potholes on SA Road urgently

Posted on September 5, 2026 By admin

The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has directed the Kochi Corporation to urgently repair potholes on the stretch between Elamkulam and Kadavanthra Junction on Sahodaran Ayyappan (SA) Road.

SHRC Chairperson Alexander Thomas also ordered that repair works on Ramankutty Achan Road be carried out urgently.

The order noted that the potholes on SA Road, which were caused by laying of pipelines, posed a serious risk to motorists. Though they were initially filled with cement, it was washed away by the rain as the road has been surfaced with BMBC tar.

A similar situation exists on Ramankutty Achan Road near the South Railway overbridge, close to S.A. Road, the order said.

The order said the Corporation’s assistant executive engineer should conduct an inspection in the presence of ward councillors. The Corporation secretary and superintending engineer have been directed to submit a report to the Commission within two weeks. The Corporation assistant secretary and executive engineer should appear before the Commission on October 23.

The case was registered suo motu by the Commission based on a newspaper report.
