The German government said on Tuesday (September 1, 2026) it assessed that Russia was responsible for an attempted drone attack at Leipzig/Halle airport this month and ordered a series of measures in response, including the closure of a Russian cultural centre in Berlin.
“We assume that Germany is the target of further hybrid attacks by Russia,” Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said in a statement to the media.
Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said that “the Russian general consulate in Bonn will be closed by September 18” and added that “the lease for the Russian House in Berlin will be cancelled”.
