Airbus awards Mahindra Aerostructures contract to make A320neo, A321XLR fuselage skins

Posted on August 31, 2026 By admin

Airbus has awarded Mahindra Aerostructures a contract to manufacture and supply fuselage skins for its A320 family of aircraft, expanding the Indian company’s role in Airbus’ global supply chain.

Under the multi-year programme, Mahindra Aerostructures will manufacture fuselage skins used to cover the rear fuselage and tail sections of the Airbus A320neo and A321XLR aircraft, with delivery targeted for 2028. The components will be produced at the company’s facility in Bengaluru and supplied to Airbus’ manufacturing facility in Augsburg, Germany.

“The manufacture of fuselage skins for the A320 family requires advanced process capabilities and precision at scale. Through investments in specialised technologies and manufacturing infrastructure, we will build critical capabilities in India and support Airbus’ requirements from our Bengaluru facility,” said Vinod Sahay, President, Mahindra Aerospace, Advanced Technologies and Trucks & Buses.

Jürgen Westermeier, President and Managing Director, Airbus India and South Asia, said the contract underscores India’s growing precision-engineering capabilities.

As part of its industrialisation roadmap, Mahindra Aerostructures plans to expand its specialised manufacturing capabilities through advanced chemical milling, surface treatment and stretch-forming production lines, it said in a press statement.

Initial engineering activities, including tooling design, process-flow updates, qualification and inspection, are already underway, with deliveries targeted to begin in 2028.

Mahindra Aerostructures has an existing relationship with Airbus across several programmes. The company has previously secured contracts to manufacture and assemble the main fuselages of Airbus’ H125 and H130 helicopters, besides supplying components and sub-assemblies for Airbus commercial aircraft programmes.
