Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra made an urgent oral mentioning before the Chief Justice of India’s Bench on Monday (August 24, 2026) alleging that the Nadia district administration in West Bengal has evicted her from her constituency accommodation in the dead of the night. Ms. Moitra is a Lok Sabha MP from Krishnanagar in Nadia district.

Ms. Moitra said that on August 14 she was directed by the Nadia district administration to vacate the Circuit House in Nadia district late in the evening. In a video message, Ms. Moitra stated that as an MP of the Nadia district she was entitled to a stay at the Circuit House and she was not vacating it as per district administration orders. In her messages, Ms. Moitra repeatedly claimed that a crowd had gathered outside the Circuit House chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’.

The counsel said that the eviction of a sitting MP from her constituency accommodation in Circuit House by local officials, who took the law into their hands, was a direct attack on federalism in violation of court orders.

The counsel argued that the eviction took place despite a High Court order in her favour.

The lawyer sought an urgent hearing of Ms. Moitra’s writ petition under Article 32 of the Constitution to protect her fundamental rights against State action.

“A sitting lady MP was evicted from her constituency accommodation by local officials, the Additional District Magistrate and the District Magistrate, in the dead of the night at 11 p.m. This requires an independent investigation and comprehensive directions,” Ms. Moitra’s counsel submitted.

The Court said it would look into her plea for early listing.
