Rigorous security, crowd management, and digital infrastructure measures are being implemented ahead of the consecration ceremony at Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple in Madurai on September 17, according to Minister for Energy Resources and Law R. Nirmalkumar..
Speaking to reporters after inaugurating a new building for Madurai North Taluk here on Saturday, he detailed the outcome of a high-level review meeting held with Collector Nishant Krishna and key officials of various departments.
He said the administration planned to permit between 8,000 and 10,000 devotees on the temple’s upper terrace, alongside 300 dignitaries including judges, Collector and temple administrators. To maintain order and prevent unauthorised entries or irregularities, entry passes utilising secure QR codes would be distributed to attendees.
“Authorities are actively finalising entry routes from surrounding streets and exit pathways to streamline pedestrian flow. Given that crowds frequently gather on neighbouring rooftops to witness the ceremony, structural stability inspections are under way for houses surrounding the temple perimeter,” he added.
Further, LED screens would be installed across locations around the temple to ensure the consecration was accessible to the wider public via live broadcasts.
Addressing queries on Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s participation, the Minister said the visit was unlikely due to the massive crowds expected at the event and prior scheduled commitments during those dates.
Commenting on the recent controversy surrounding the Gujiliamparai Tahsildar’s notification, he clarified that the official had issued a circular based on personal discretion without the Collector’s knowledge. “With only six months remaining until his retirement, the circular has been officially withdrawn, and administrative actions, including his transfer, have been initiated,” he said.
