Delhi-based software engineer beaten to death by in-laws after wife alleges dispute; four detained

Posted on August 22, 2026 By admin

A 31-year-old software engineer was allegedly beaten to death by his in-laws at his home in outer Delhi’s Laxmi Park on Friday (August 21, 2026) after his wife called her family members following a matrimonial dispute, police said.

Police informed that a murder case is being registered in connection with the incident, and four individuals have been identified and detained for questioning.

The deceased, Vinay Gupta, who worked as a software engineer for a multinational company in Noida, had been married to his wife, a 31-year-old homemaker and resident of Budh Vihar, for about three and a half years. The couple has twin children, a boy and a girl, who are four and a half months old.

According to the police, a dispute arose between Gupta and his wife on Friday (August 21, 2026) morning. Following this, she contacted her family, who then came to his home in the Nihal Vihar area and allegedly assaulted him.

Gupta sustained severe injuries from the assault and later died as a result, police said.

The incident was brought to light when Gupta’s family alleged that he was brutally beaten inside the house in front of his mother. They claimed that six relatives from his wife’s family arrived around 11 a.m. to discuss the couple’s issues.

Gupta’s mother had gone to arrange water and refreshments for the visitors when the alleged assault began, the family claimed.

When she returned, she allegedly found her son being beaten and tried to intervene. The family alleged that she shouted for help and pleaded with the attackers to spare her son, but the assault continued.

Afterwards, Gupta was rushed to a hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. His father mentioned that the couple had been experiencing disputes over minor issues for some time, and the family had hoped to resolve the matter through discussion. Unfortunately, the situation escalated into violence.

The Nihal Vihar police arrived at the scene after receiving information about the incident. A forensic team was also called to collect evidence. The body has been taken into custody for legal proceedings, according to police.
