A double murder-suicide shocked Lucknow on Thursday (August 20, 2026), when Manas Vajpayee, a government bank employee, allegedly shot his wife at her office in Gomti Nagar and then killed his sister before taking his own life.

Guards at ICICI Bank in Gomti Nagar informed police that a 38-year-old man shot his wife, Divya Mishra, after speaking to her for a few minutes. She was taken to the hospital but was declared dead. The couple had been married for about 13 years but had been living separately for over a year.

Minutes later, the man posted a WhatsApp status claiming he killed his wife for cheating, then went to his home, killed his sister Tulika (29) and shot himself.

“Around 12:15 p.m., we received information that a woman had been shot in front of the ICICI bank. The police team immediately reached the spot and sent the injured to the hospital, where she was declared dead. We are probing the matter from all angles and necessary action is being taken,” said Diksha Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Lucknow.

(Assistance for overcoming suicidal thoughts is available on the State’s health helpline 104, Tele-MANAS 14416. and Sneha’s suicide prevention helpline 044-24640050)
