The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) has claimed to have found “certain handwritten accounts maintained by T. Veena,” daughter of Leader of the Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan, pertaining to ₹85 lakh allegedly transferred to Dubai.
The notes contained the “names of persons, amounts handled, spent” besides the amount transferred to Dubai. The searches conducted on the premises related to Ms. Veena and the promoters of Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited (CMRL) on May 27, 2026, yielded the documents, it said.
The agency, which alleged that Ms. Veena was one of the recipients of money from the CRML without rendering any services, stated that it had seized the handwritten accounts during the raid.
All the persons named in the handwritten accounts of Ms. Veena and the person who had provided the SIM card were covered during the search, according to a release issued by the ED.
The digital devices seized from Ms. Veena had a photograph of a SIM card obtained in the name of another person for use in a Wi-Fi router. It is suspected that the SIM card and the Wi-Fi router were obtained by her in the name of another person to use them for communications through Internet-based calls.
The agency claimed it had found evidence related to the transfer of money using hawala channels.
The seizures made by the ED showed that Ms. Veena was handling amounts beyond her known sources of income. The amounts stated in her handwritten accounts were over and above the amount she received from the CMRL, the agency claimed.
Incidentally, the Kochi zonal office of the ED had conducted search operations on nine premises in Kozhikode on August 18 under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002, in connection with alleged corporate fraud and bribe paid by CMRL.
The agency said it launched the investigation following the findings of the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) for corporate fraud and bribe payments. SFIO investigations had revealed that fictitious cash expenses of ₹182 crore had been made by the CMRL over a span of 15 years, which were used for bribing various persons, the ED said.
One of the fake expenses booked by the CMRL was towards the payment made to Ms. Veena. Exalogic Solutions Private Limited, the now defunct company owned by her, had allegedly received fraudulent payments totalling ₹2.78 crore from the CMRL under the guise of IT consultancy services. Also, Empower India Capital Investment Private Limited, operated by Sasidharan Kartha, MD of CMRL, extended loans to Exalogic totalling ₹50 Lakh, despite the firm failing to make timely repayments, the SFIO had alleged.
KPCC president and Electricity Minister Sunny Joseph termed the ED’s claim of having unearthed incriminating evidence against Ms. Veena as “extremely serious.”
“Since the report contains findings about monetary transactions, the CPI(M)’s arguments about the case have proven to be baseless,” he said, demanding a response from Mr. Vijayan and the CPI(M).
