Mumbai Anti-Narcotics Cell seizes 10.10 kg of charas from Bihar man

Mumbai Anti-Narcotics Cell seizes 10.10 kg of charas from Bihar man

Posted on August 18, 2026 By admin

The Mumbai Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) arrested a man from Bihar at Bandra Terminus on Tuesday (August 18, 2026) for allegedly carrying 10.10 kg of ‘charas’ (cannabis resin) with a market value of ₹10.01 crores, according to the police.

The police said that the man, 31, was not well educated and was an auto driver from Bihar with three children. He had made similar drug drops in Mumbai before, according to the police. He was produced before a local court on Tuesday (August 18, 2026), which remanded him to police custody till August 21.

Purnima Choughle Shringi, DCP ANC, said the man was found on Tuesday (August 18, 2026) at Bandra Terminus acting suspiciously. “The accused started his journey from Motihari station in Bihar and arrived at Bandra Terminus in Mumbai. There, the police found his behaviour suspicious and checked him, after which they found the illegal narcotics,” she said.

The accused has been booked under Section 8(c) read with 20(c) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, which deals with the illegal production, possession, sale, purchase, transportation, import, export or use of cannabis. Section 20 states that possession or other prohibited activities involving a commercial quantity of cannabis attract rigorous imprisonment of not less than 10 years and up to 20 years, along with a fine of ₹1 lakh to ₹2 lakh.

Ms. Shringi also said the man was a professional carrier and was not cooperating during the interrogation.

“The charas was compressed and wet, which allowed him to carry that quantity of charas compactly. If it were in powder form, it would be heavier. It was wrapped and packed professionally so that no one could smell it. He must be experienced because the entire handling of this large package was done professionally. His job was just to hand over the drugs and go back. We are trying to find out if there are any links to a syndicate, but right now he is not cooperating with the questioning,” she said.

When asked why the railway authorities didn’t check his bag while he was coming to Mumbai, Ms. Shringi said that “thousands of people travel by trains regularly, so it is not possible to check every bag.”

The accused was remanded to police custody with the Worli ANC unit till August 21, 2026. The police are questioning the accused for possible further links to a larger syndicate and to identify his alleged suppliers and recipients in Mumbai.
