Sivaganga police have arrested one person on charges of posing as CBI officials and swindling ₹2.81 crore from a woman teacher in Chennai.
Police said, Rama, 66, was a retired teacher living in R.A. Puram, Chennai, and was also working as a German language instructor.
She had saved money obtained from the sale of her properties along with her salary earnings.
In April, individuals posing as CBI officers contacted her. They threatened her by claiming that money fraud had been committed through her bank account.
Further, under the guise of verifying her bank accounts, they transferred ₹2.81 crore from her accounts to their own and committed fraud.
Based on a complaint lodged by Rama, the Sivaganga District Crime Branch police registered a case and investigated.
The investigation revealed that three individuals—Tamilarasan from Madurai, Harishankar from Mettur in Salem, and Ayyanarajan from Dayapuram in Manamadurai—were involved in this fraud together.
Following this, the police arrested Ayyanarajan and further investigation is underway.
