Two brothers were arrested on Friday (July 31, 2026) for allegedly murdering their mother and younger brother, a dentist, at their residence in Anna Nagar East following a prolonged dispute over ancestral property.

The deceased were identified as Ashraf Nisha, and her younger son, Dr. Ashraf Ahmed, 42, a dental practitioner. According to the police, personnel from the Anna Nagar police station rushed to the family’s house on 1st Avenue in Anna Nagar East after receiving information in the early hours of Friday that two people had been found dead under suspicious circumstances. A 108 ambulance team examined the victims and declared them dead at the scene.

Police said Ashraf Nisha had multiple injuries on her face and other parts of her body, while Ashraf Ahmed had injuries on his waist, arms and legs, raising suspicions of foul play.

A case of murder was registered and a detailed investigation was launched. During the inquiry, investigators found that the family had been embroiled in a long-standing dispute over the sale and distribution of a property estimated to be worth around ₹1 crore.

Based on the investigation, police arrested the deceased woman’s two elder sons. During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to killing their mother and younger brother over the property dispute, police sources said.

The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination. Forensic experts examined the crime scene and collected evidence, while senior police officials visited the spot and supervised the investigation.
