Laudable effort

This is with reference to the article, “Mangrove conservation efforts flourish along the Thoothukudi coast,” published in The Hindu on July 20. The restoration of mangrove forest along the coastal zone of Thoothukudi district by the forest department is an invaluable project for maintaining the ecosystem balance and conserving the native flora and fauna. The preservation of these vital habitats protects villages from erosion and reduces the impact of natural disasters.

Train extension

At present, the Vande Bharat train operates between Nagercoil junction and Chennai. The government should take steps to extend the train service to Kanniyakumari, as this would give a significant boost to tourism in the district.
