Evening rain catches Hyderabad commuters off guard

Several parts of Hyderabad received moderate rainfall on Monday, July 20, evening after a bright and sunny day, catching many commuters off guard. The rain, which lashed the city between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., led to waterlogging at a few locations and slowed traffic movement at several busy junctions.

Rainfall commenced shortly after 7 p.m. across multiple parts of the city, including Kukatpally, Madhapur, Jubilee Hills, Yousufguda, Ameerpet, Begumpet and Secunderabad. With many two-wheeler riders unprepared for the sudden downpour, several were seen taking shelter beneath Metro stations until the rain subsided. The showers brought much-needed relief from the hot, humid and largely dry weather that has prevailed across Hyderabad since the beginning of July.

According to data from Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS), as of 9 p.m, Mamidipalli received a rainfall of 28 mm followed by 26.5 mm in Adibatla, 24.5 mm in Shamshabad, 16 mm in Mangalpally, 11 mm in Banjara Hills, 10.8 mm in Hafeezpet, 10.3 mm at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), 10.3 mm in Madhapur, 8 mm in Masab Tank, 7.8 mm in Goshamahal, 7 mm in Charminar, 6.8 mm in Tarnaka and 6 mm in Jubilee Hills.
