The Udupi district unit of BJP Yuva Morcha has asked the Udupi district administration to take strict action to ensure the safety of children in school vehicles, in light of the three recent accidents involving school vehicles.
In a memorandum submitted to Udupi Deputy Commissioner T.K. Swaroopa on Tuesday, the Yuva Morcha activists said the accidents involving school vehicles were a result of inexperienced drivers, overspeeding, the use of unfit vehicles, carrying excess students, a lack of vehicle maintenance, and not following road safety regulations. The accidents were causing concern to parents, they said.
They requested that the district administration and the Udupi District police give clear instructions to the school management to comply with safety regulations. They should regularly inspect school vehicles and ensure that the vehicles comply with safety norms, the activists said.
If accidents involving school vehicles are reported in the coming days, the Yuva Morcha would carry out a demonstration in front of the Udupi Deputy Commissioner’s office, the activists stated.
The memorandum was submitted by Yuva Morcha president Pruthviraj Shetty. He was accompanied by general secretaries Abhiraj Suvarna and Pradeep Kundar and presidents of the Udupi City and Udupi Rural Yuva Morcha units, Srivatsa and Sushanth Poojary.
