In a special drive, Food Safety and municipality officials conducted checks at 52 shops and hotels across Perambalur on Friday.
Sixteen eateries and shops, which were functioning under unhygienic conditions, have been issued notices, the Food Safety Department has said.
According to a press release, the department officials, led by S. Suganthan, District Designated Food Safety Officer, conducted checks in Perambalur Municipal limits under the instructions of Collector Sharanya Ari.
During the checks, 8 kg of banned plastic products; 2 kg each of expired food products and food items with improper labels and 1.5 kg of adulterated tea powder were seized during the checks. A total of ₹26,000 was imposed on the violators.
Dr. Suganthan said that members of the public can pass on information about sale of banned tobacco and narcotic substances to 94440442322. The identity of the informants will be protected, he added.
