In a move to create a safe, clean, modern and inspiring learning space for children, the Delhi government has launched Mission Kayakalp in government schools across the Capital.
Giving details about the programme, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday said, under the initiative her government is planning to carry out extensive infrastructure works in selected government schools.
Besides government funds, support for the programme will also come from various social organisations, market associations, local communities, and corporate social responsibility contributions, said Ms. Gupta.
A statement from the Chief Minister’s Office stated: “Mission Kayakalp is a comprehensive campaign to transform government schools.” The initiative focuses on repairing school buildings, painting and whitewashing walls, waterproofing, improving rooftop drainage, renovating toilets, installing RO plants and water coolers, modernising science laboratories, developing facilities for children with special needs, beautifying school campuses, increasing greenery, and creating a safe and positive environment for students.
The Chief Minister said visible improvements have been made in two schools in every revenue district that was chosen under the initiative.
In the North district, at a cost of around ₹16.20 lakh, the sensory park for children with special needs at the school on Shankaracharya Marg has been renovated, while an RO plant and water coolers have also been installed, she said. At the government school in Roop Nagar, the physics laboratory has been modernised to enhance students’ practical learning.
“Schools that once had dilapidated buildings, damaged walls, old toilets and limited facilities are now emerging as clean, freshly painted campuses equipped with better facilities, along with a safer and more inspiring learning environment,” said Ms. Gupta.
Similarly, in the South district, large scale improvement works have been completed at Ramanujan Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya, Mehrauli, at a cost of around ₹48.73 lakh, and at Sarvodaya Co-ed Senior Secondary School, Qutub Mehrauli, at a cost of nearly ₹98.58 lakh that covered renovation of toilets, replacement of sanitary fittings, repairs to wall, fixing roof leakages and damaged plasters, and repainting the entire buildings with high-quality weather-resistant paint. Similar works were conducted at schools in other districts as well.
The Chief Minister said that improvements will steadily be extended to more government schools with the help of community participation.
