HYDERABAD

Five persons were arrested for allegedly transporting 8.788 kg of marijuana by the Special Operations Team (SOT) of the Chevella Zone and Mokila police near Indra Reddy Nagar.

The accused were identified as Pulender Singh, a native of Bihar, Sujit Bairagi, a native of Odisha, Mahesh Kumar and Sanjit Kumar, both from Bihar, and Mohammad Javid, a resident of Kondakal.

According to the police, the accused procured the marijuana from suppliers in Odisha and allegedly planned to sell it in labour-intensive areas of Hyderabad. Acting on credible information, the SOT and Mokila police intercepted the suspects and arrested them, seizing five packets containing 8.788 kg of marijuana.

Police also seized five mobile phones, a motorcycle and ₹4,200 in cash from their possession.

A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. The accused were produced before a court.

The Future City Police Commissionerate said it would continue taking strict action against the trafficking, possession and consumption of narcotic substances and appealed to the public to share information about such illegal activities.
