Congress leader and builder Amrith Shenoy was arrested for non-compliance with an order from the Udupi District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission.

The Udupi police on Thursday arrested Congress leader and builder Amrith Shenoy for non-compliance with an order from the Udupi District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission.
In a press note, the police said that on a complaint filed by Santosh Pai, the District Commission had directed Mr. Shenoy either to register Flat No. 304 in Viger Apartment in Mr. Pai’s name or pay ₹27.2 lakh with 9% interest.
Following non-compliance with the order, Mr. Pai filed an execution petition before the Commission, which found Mr. Shenoy guilty under Section 72 of the Consumer Protection Act.
On June 24, the District Commission sentenced Mr. Shenoy to three years’ imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹1 lakh. In default of payment of the fine, he will have to undergo simple imprisonment for a further six months. The Commission issued a warrant directing the police to arrest Mr. Shenoy and produce him before it on Thursday.
Accordingly, the Udupi police arrested Mr. Shenoy and produced him before the District Commission, which remanded him to the prison at Hiriyadka, the police said.
